Torsemide FAQ

Hypertension ... afraid of Lisinopril cough ... Demedex (Torsemide) better?

Hi, my doctor has just placed me on hypertension medication, because my blood pressure has not responded to dietary measures (lowering salt, etc.). He has prescriped Lisinopril, 10 mg daily. He told me up front that Lisinopril can cause a chronic dry cough in some people. I have researched the drug since then, and the prospect of that cough has me so frightened that I cannot bring myself to take the medicine (I did have the prescription filled). The problem is, I have chronic throat problems and a chronic little nagging cough anyway that I have to deal with, especially at this time of the year. The thought of magnifying that is just not acceptable to me. Neither is letting my hypertension go untreated. So I have pretty much decided to go back and talk with my doctor about getting something else. I just thought I'd toss it out here, though, to see if anyone could give me some input on just how bad the Lisinopril cough is or if there are ways to deal with it or if it would be a real red flag for somebody like me who already has a perpetually scratchy throat to where I should see if my doctor would go in another direction. The reason I mentioned Demedex (that's the brand name, Torsemide is the generic) in my header is that I know Toresmide, which is a diuretic, can be used to treat hypertension and I have taken it before for an unrelated condition and tolerated it extremely well (I ate dried apricots, which I love, and drank orange juice to take care of the potassium issues with Torsemide; I know bananas are the usual thing to eat for that but I detest bananas). I have a good relationship with my doctor (have seen him for 30 years) and would have no hesitation in talking with him and I think he would appreciate and consider my concerns. I just like to do my homework going into such consultations. Thanks in advance for any help.

Drug Testing My Son For THC / Pot / Marijuana?

LOTS of reading in past days & everything is towards passing drug test & screening THC so it wont show up. I've been testing my son the last 5 months every 3 weeks. He showed positive for THC the 1st Test & again on the 4th or 5th Test I don't remember. I bought the tests from the local drug store. The last 5 or 6 tests have shown negative which is great but i was wondering if there is a way to get it out of your System All The Time? He has High Blood Presure so he is on a pill called Torsemide which is used for High Blood Presure. The Doctor says that this pill will also cause him to urinate a lot. He's been on this medicine for the last 8 weeks or so. I've read & Drinking A LOT of Water will help mask THC when doing a test, I havent seen him drink the amount of water that is required to mask it or use the bathroom a lot more than usual. So I'm wondering since he is taking this Pill named Torsemide Would it be flushing his system or can i now call him Drugless? The reason for if you must know and as it sounds like i must explain myself is. He has Degenerative Disc Disease and has had 4 back surgeries in 6 years and has gone thru 3 Pain Management Doctors in the last 2 years so far all due to the fact that they all have a Zero (0) Tolerance for Narcotics and Each one has stopped seeing him because of the fact that he keeps Smoking Pot. Hey,... Who Hasnt Smoked Pot??? His HBP Isnt due to home life either i might add. The Kid (18yr Old) has it made here at home and if he ever moved out, He'd be Screwed and Knows it because he is pretty much unable to work and the SSI He receives wouldnt Pay for Crap. It's probably from the fact that He can't do much and just Sits around doing nothing because of his back. I'm just tired of Driving 1/2 Across the State or it seems to take him to his PM Doc every month, Sometimes 2x. Do i care if he Smokes Pot? No. But i have to.

Kidney function in Diabetics?

My dad is taking medicines for diabetic and hypertension since 20yrs. Due to skin itching he has taken blood test before 1 week.It was 325mg/dl blood sugar and 6.3 mg/dl of creatinine. After diet control and increase of insulin to 15 from 10 Unit, today after another blood test blood sugar is 75mg/dl and creatinine is 5.8mg/dl. I know that creatinine increase is an evidence of renal failure. Please advice to improve his kidney function. His medication is : Tide 10(Torsemide Tablet 10mg) 1-1-0.since 5 months. Amlovas-s(Amlodipine Besilate 2.5mg) 1-0-0.since 5 months. Deriphylline Retard 150(Sustained release tablets of Etofylline and Theophylline) 0-0-1.since 5month Razo D(Acid reflex tablet) 1-0-0 since 5 month Doxacard-2(Doxazosin Mesylate 2mg) 1-0-1 started since 4 years. Dyamide 20(Torsemide Tablet 20mg) 1/2-0-1/2 since 1 week. Alfacalcidol & Calcium cap. 1-0-0 since 1 week folic acid, iron with copper and manganese cap. 1-0-1. since 1 wk. BP:160/100 Huminsulin 15 0 15 He is now 57yrs. And 66Kgs.Now a days itching is reduced. But I fear of a nearby dialysis. Please comment soon.

Reason I'm asking doctors can't find out why my mothers feet and legs are swelling, why she gets dizzy sometimes, can't sleep at night. Also gets out of breath, always tired, and always sick at her stomache. She also has a raw mouth and toungue. But yet the dr's say she can take everything she is taking and with each other. I'm trying to find out and have been for year, how to make my mother feel better. She had a heart attack due to allergic reation to morphine in 2001. SInce then the dr says she has a-fib but yet says she has a great heart. Never have understood dr's. Help someone!

Ifany of you actually have CHF & severe edema, please inform me.?

I am non-responsive to the various diuretic drugs. Besides their direct toxicity in me, NONE OF THEM make me urinate at all! torsemide, Zaroxylyn, HCTZ have done nothing for me. Besides, my body is in pain & overloaded with water in the tissue spaces themselves & fatty tissues - so how can this edema be reabsorbed back where it came from - the BLOODSTREAM ? Then if this edema water would reenter the bloodstream & then if my kidneys would urinate it out - The tide would turn in my favor, for a respite. but right now, I have painful, swollen thighs, ankles, calves, cannot even bend or flex to climb a shallow step or climb a stool or ladder. the rigidity of my legs is tormenting. My lungs feel gasping for each breath, upon slightest exertion. I restrict liquids to less than l liter daily, virtually no sodium, at all, yet seems to have no effect, My abdomen is hard to the touch & bloated badly. I'm alone, uninsured. Anyone else fail with diuretics??? Cardiolog general- thanks for your info. But with my ejection fraction being 50% ( truly) and that I have both left & right sided ventricular dysfunction, would digitalis still be so beneficial? I wonder. the diuretics failed utterly and expelled no urine. I am investigating ultrafiltation to reduce my water volume in blood. then the water trapped in tissue spaces will hopefuly be absorbed back into the blood. God help me.
