Terbutaline FAQ
I was advised by the L&D nurse to come into the hospital?
2 days ago. I had diarrhea for 4 days (now going on 6) and was having a lot of back pain. I had tightening in my stomach that was extremely uncomfortable but not painful. And on top of it all, I lost my mucous plug which scared the hell out of me because I'm only 31 weeks. When I went in, they hooked me up to an IV and gave me 2 bags of water due to dehydration and monitored my contractions. They didn't stop with the IV so they gave me 2 doses of terbutaline. Anyone who has had this will know it makes you feel like someone has pumped speed directly into your heart and it makes you so dizzy and nauseated you can barely breath. They told me that my contractions had slowed down but not stopped completely and that if my diarrhea continued, to make an appt with my dr. the next day. Well, my diarrhea did continue, but I didn't make an appt because my dr. is out of town until the 26th (which is my next appt). I love him but hate the others in his office. I feel like they never listen to what I have to say and blow me off. At the hospital I wasn't checked for dilation at all, and I havent had a pelvic exam since I was 6 weeks pregnant. Is that normal? Shouldn't they have checked me with all the other things going on plus the contractions?? My back pain has continued along with my diarrhea..but it is inconsistent still. When should I be worried about going back in since I feel no difference in my symptoms? I don't want to go back in just to be let out but I'm worried they didn't do everything they should have to check my situation. What do you think???
What else can i take for contractions?I went into the L&D last night because of contractions and menstrual cramps. At home I was having contractions every 3 mins. So called the OB back that was on call and told me to head to the hospital. For about the 3 hours i was there my contractions went from 1-2 mins so they gave me 2 shots of Terbutaline. (They had to give me 2 because the first one had me having contractions at 1-2 mins the 2nd one finally put me at 17 mins. They said the Terbutaline was to stop my prelabor i was experiencing. Which they said was odd because I was still only dilated at 1cm and they couldn't tell why i was having severe cramps but they saw that i was having the cramps. The OB sent me home with the pill verison of Terbutaline so i could take it when i had bad contractions. Which when i went home from the hospital to go to bed I woke every few mins to really sharp contractions that lasted for 2 hours till i finally could sleep. But now that i'm up (on strict bed rest) i've experienced really sharp contractions that come and go for about 2-3 mins. I've taken 2 Terbutaline but the contractions are still pretty strong. Can anyone recommend anything else i can take that would mild the contractions at least make them further apart at least. im 33 weeks
Just found out Terbutaline is not FDA approved?I just stopped taking Terbutaline I read a few articles and a lawsuit site on Terbutaline stating that its not FDA approved. I can't believe my doctor even subscribed this to me. I feel like a really horrible mother to my unborn child i've only taking it for about a week will that hurt my baby in anyway? I read about its side effects to unborn babies and I'm SO not happy with my doctor at this moment. Also Ohio and a few other states are claiming if u have taken Terbutaline during pregnancy your in titled to a large sum of money.
Diarrhea with severe contractions?I'm 32 weeks pregnant with my first baby last week I went in Wed night for sever contractions. Which my doctor put me on Terbutaline to lessen the contractions. Which the contractions have been lasting for 3 weeks the same time every night. Starting Friday of last week I started to experince heavery contractions and diarrhea with stomach cramps. Not as severe as the contractions but still enough I wanna scream. The cramps are low kinda in the abdomen area but like i said not severe so thats not my main concern. The diarrhea makes my contractions alot stronger so Terbutaline doesn't even kick in it worked for like the first night i took it. Could i be experincing the flu or is this common? ya i see my OB this thursday so hopefully i will get an answer other then constapation. I should proubly cancel my birthing classes to for this week
Taking Terbutaline for contractions but still not helping? My OB started me on Terbutaline last wed night because i went in for sever contractions and since every night for the past 3 weeks i've had very sever contractions. Terbutaline is apparently suppose to help with contractions yet it only worked the first night i used it. So not sure what to do I've been put on bed rest for the rest of my 7 weeks i have left till im due. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do it would be great Ya this is my first i had pre labor twice already which started at 20 weeks so i don't know if that's something to do with whats going on
