Olanzapine FAQ
Question about Anti Psychotics and Anxiety/OCD?
I suffer from Anxiety and OCD. I need psychotherapy urgently, however in the UK there is a waiting list of 12 months or more. I have been using the local Mental Health Crisis team who visit me at my home daily but find them inexperienced and useless. I have seen the psychiatrist a few times and they insist that i take heavy anti psychotics like Olanzapine (Zyprexa) or Qeitapine (Seroquil) as well as an anti depressants. I have taken these drugs in the past and they caused an EXTREME increase in appetite and very much slowed my metabolism. Seroquil gave me horrendous acne which left me scarred to the point that i had to spend a lot of money of surgery. However, these doctors will not treat me unless i take both an Anti psychotic and Anti depressant. I dont mind taking the anti depressant but not the anti psychotic. Does any one know who or where i can turn to for advice? Thanks. LaGail R. They DONT work. I end up even more depressed on them. The answer to my problems is NOT via drugs. If something worked but didnt destroy my body then i would take it.
A question on Haloperidol?Listen, thanks to all the people that gave me some medical advice. It was great. Remember me?Asking what is the most sedating Anti-Psychotic. I noticed that most of you said Seroquel. I started off on 100mg a day. Then 200mg a day. ...then (this is not a joke)...I increased the dose to 900mg a day. Then 1500mg a day. And eventually 2200mg per day. And you know what? ITS NOT SEDATING ME. People said to me that Olanzapine was sedating. Didn't do anything for me. Neither did Risperidone or Solian. I've even been on Largactil up to 600mg a day. Stelazine, too, except on a lower dose. I need to know about Haloperidol. I don't want anyone to refer me to Wikipedia, I want real responses from real people. Is Haloperidol sedating? If so, is the sedation dose-related? How long does it take for the drug to kick in? There's 3 questions there. Hopefully you guys can shed some light on this medication. I KNOW you people are not doctors or psychiatrists, but I appreciate your input. Thanks. Just for the record, these are my medications: Lexapro 40mg a day Valium 30mg a day Gabapentin 900mg a day Seroquel 1200mg Mogadon 5mg Haloperidol...? Undecided dosage A laxative, and alot of Codeine.

Please help...? Life seems so pointless with no future?I had a breakdown at the end of last year, and was diagnosed as bipolar (probably had it since very young). I was prescribed Zyprexa (olanzapine) then Seroquel (quetiapine). And also Epilim (sodium valproate; depakote in US I think) I have gone from being slim to being clinically obese. Because of this I stopped my meds, and when given steroids went manic, followed by a mixed episode, and ended back in crisis care. I am apparently 'classic bipolar' though have no idea of what that means. I've been told that I tend more to manai than depression, which is weird as I feel low, but apparently am still 'high'. I have been given risperidone which I haven't taken; the only reason it was given is because whne anxious I worry about someone being downstairs (I have had my windows broken three times). My psychiatrist asks someone to watch me take my meds in the morning; but I hide the risperidone. I was warned that it can make me lactate, the valproate is making my hair fall... I don't want to exist anymore. I have tried to talk about my concerns and am not heard. I suddenly look middle-aged; am worried that if my periods stop I will not have enough time to have more kids... I am not prepared to sacrifice all this just to make me 'normal'. I do not feel that being fat (very fat) having facial hair, losing hair on my head and general self-hate is worth it. I am not dangerous, more hypomanic, I want to run away as no one seems to understand. I used to suffer bulimia and anorexia and am dangerously close to making myself vomit again.. help?
Help for Schizophrenic.?My older brother is a Schizophrenic, he was diagnosed 8 years ago when he was 18. He has had 3 relapses (got hospitalized+electric shock), it's been almost a year since his third relapse, but he is still not ok at all. he does not do anything on his own, he has to be told to even go to the toilet, shower, brush his teeth, eat, sleep (u get the idea), he is basically like a robot. he has been on ZYPREXA Olanzapine and now he is on Risperdal (Risperidone) and he does not seem to be getting better. I feel sorry for him, and all of us want to help him but we don't know what to do. He goes to a private hospital, but his doctor sucks and he does not seem to be concerned about his patient so much. Is there another alternative we can try? (drugs or other) Is there hope of him being normal again? it breaks my heart to see him that way. He takes his meds everyday as prescribed. I heard that clozapine is good for tough to treat cases.
