Loperamide FAQ

Can I take Anti-Diarrhea Medicine While Pregnant?

I went from being constipated for weeks now, and now I have Diarrhea. I had one spell of it last night (last nights I chalked up to all the almonds I ate) and about 3 times today (And I haven't ate much today). Today is killing me. Can I take Loperamide Hydrochloride Anti-Diarrheal tablets 2mg (they are walmart brand) while pregnant? I am 4 weeks 4 days. Or do I have to just suffer haha? I just read online that it does happend to some pregnant women and doesnt last that long, so not to worry. Tyia!

How can i reverse the effects of constipation that loperamide gives me?

I have anxiety diarrhea and i have a big social event tonight. I usually don't take loperamide as it gives me constipation for days but i felt especially bad today so had to take one. Is there any way of reducing the constipatory side effects of loperamide?

This question is for those working in the medical profession. Having some gut issues - can you help?

Kind of gross so you have been warned, if squeamish, escape now! Two weeks ago my daughter came home and brought home some sort of tummy problem which affected the rest of the family. I know it was a virus and not food poisoning, because my husband didnt eat the same food as us that day and he still got sick. Now for two weeks everyone had really smelly runny poos although the frequency wasnt that much (2-4 times a day). During that two weeks i was kinda defiant and had a spicy takeaway twice ( i got tired of eating bland food), which made my stools very frequent as well as very runny. The whole experience was rather unpleasant. Anyhoo, the spicy curry episode happened 5 days ago or so. EVeryone else has fully recovered. I expected that i would have recovered from the curry by now but that is not the case, up until my visit to the doctors yesterday my stools were still very frequent (about 12times a day) and ver runny. Yesterday i saw the doctor i got some loperamide hydrochloride and took one after every loose stool as instructed. I also drank a cassava, water, sugar and salt solution that my husband told me to make up. I am not sure which one has worked, but today i am opening my bowels less often, although it is still runny. I would like to know if anyone could tell me why everyone else has recovered but I am the only one who is still having loose stools even after having taken medication for it ( iam the only one who took medication). Is the lining of my gut ruined? I think there must be something else gong on. Sorry i know its gross, butjust wondering. Scorpio Rising thanks for your answer. There is no question in my mind that poor hygiene is what caused everyone to get ill in the first place. UNfortunately the person who i suspect brought the infection into the house is my 3 year old daughter and despite being shown how and told countless times to wash her hands properly, i am sure she wasnt doing so during the first week that the illness hit us. I caught her one time just running her hands under the tap after using the loo! Also, i am not sure about my husbands remedy either, i was initially very sceptical about its effectiveness. However yesterday, after having taken the medication the doc gave me and having seen no respite about 9 hours later, I was desperate and tried my husbands remedy. It was after taking that remedy that i saw almost immediate results. So I don't know - it could indeed be the medication which coinicidentally started to take effect after i drank hubby's solution. Or it could be the solution! Hi Smiley, thanks for responding. I wouldn't go near another spicy dish for a million quid !! LOL

Should I do something about this?

So, I've been concerned about my health more lately. I just turned 15. I gained a lot of weight over the year. My main concern is that in 2008, I became dependent on Loperamide, that stuff that takes care of diarrhea. I had a bad case before and my mom told me it would prevent me from going to the bathroom. I didn't realy know what it was for so I took my mom's word for it. I HATED going to my school's bathroom because it's disgusting so I'd take Loperamide tablets to keep me... safe for the day. Then I realized I didn't go to the bathroom much. I'd take the tablets everyyyydayyyy. My mom never stopped me. LOL. So I'm thinking this is bad, right? What do I do about it? Should I take laxatives or something? I don't take that stuff anymore now.

Any information regarding Loperamide? Please?

The history of its development, any notable aspects of its use (e.g. serious side effects), and structures of related drugs. Any information/ site recommendations or just general advice on these areas would be appreciated! Thanks trevor but you shouldn't have assumed that I'm 'taking an easy way out' by posting the question here. I'm looking for some good information regarding the drug, having already researched it primarily.
